Wu Tiao Ren, one of the most legendary Chinese folk/rock bands, was formed by Maotao and Renke in 2008 who were from Haifeng and living in Guangzhou now. At present, the band is composed of four members: Maotao (Lead Singer, Rhythm Guitar), Renke (Lead Singer, Lead Guitar, Accordion), Niuhe (Bass), Changjiang (Drum). Their first album "A Tale of Haifeng" was regarded as the milestone of Chinese dialect ballad, in addition, the second album "Some Scenery" broke through the traditional mode of folk style with a "wild fashion". In 2014, Wu Tiao Ren signed with Modern Sky, and released three albums "Canton Girl", "Dreamy Lisa Salon" and "Stories" under BADHEAD Music (a famous alternative label of Modern Sky). Since then , their music were no longer limited to Haifeng dialect (belonging to the hokkienese and Fulao dialect), but more sung in Mandarin. Wu Tiao Ren has won several influential music awards, such as the Chinese Music Media Awards and Taiwan Golden Indie Music Awards, and participated in many cross-border contemporary art exhibitions and activities as well. Rooted in the Chaoshan Plain and the Pearl River Delta, the music of Wu Tiao Ren is an alternative new wave of Cantonpop. They are street punk artists in the guise of folk. From country music to pop music, then to psychedelic rock, Wu Tiao Ren's live performance is more like a comedy carnival. Their music describes the joys and sorrows of a young generation who born in countryside get to a town and finally manage to a metropolis city. It is a tale of the fate of the “nobodies” in the great age.
